Walking and Talking Geography

I have seen the me on the map activity done in one of the classes that I observed during my developing teaching semester. The projects that the students were working on turned out so good. Before the teacher let the students get started on this project, she spent a lot of time talking to the students about the location of places and the names of the places. The teacher created her own me on the map with her students and she modeled how to create it. I remember her using specific vocabulary to guide the students in communicating their location. She used words such as near, next to, besides, etc.

I liked this activity because it gets students thinking about their current location as a whole. They know that they live in their home but where is there house located? Me on the map is also a great hands on visual for students.
